Original Pledge of Allegiance Didn't Mention God, Added in 1954

Quick fact, most still don't know:

In 1954, Congress after a campaign by the [Catholic organization] Knights of Columbus, added the words, 'under God,' to the Pledge.

This was largely passed by Congress as a reaction to the apparent "godlessness" of Communism and a moral we-are-better-than-you stab at the Soviet Union (remember, this was during that time when the Cold War brought us quite a bit of guvmint-sponsored insanity).
